Records of Sachin Tendulkar in World Cup

Tendulkar in World Cup

The countdown for ICC Cricket World Cup has begun and now just few days are left for the 2011 WC. But the most watched player for this world cup will be Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar who is going to play the 6th World Cup of his career.

Whenever we talk of any type of record in Cricket, the name of Sachin Tendulkar comes first. He holds almost all the big records of cricket on his name. No one even the selectors, Cricket team members or anyone in the world can imagine the Indian Cricket team without Tendulkar. This is the reason that he is known by different names like Master Blaster, God of cricket, Sachin 200, Indian Run Machine and many more.

If we see the records of Sachin Tendulkar in the Cricket World Cup then we can easily predict that India is strong challenger for 2011 WC. But if we talk about the batting average of Indian players in world cup, Rahul Dravid (former Indian skipper and captain) holds this record. But unfortunately, he is not the part of this world cup.

In the world cup, the batting average of Rahul Dravid is 61.42 with 860 runs in 22 matches whereas Sachin has scored 1796 runs with average rate of 57.93 in 36 matches. This also includes 4 centuries and 13 half centuries. Former Indian Player Saurabh Ganguly comes at third place in the batting average of world cup with 55.88, scoring 1006 runs in 21 matches.

Sachin is the only man who can achieve 2000 runs in world cup. To do so, he needs just 204 runs. Till now he has scored 1796 runs and to touch 2000, just 200 are remaining. Australian captain Ricky Ponting comes on second place in the list of highest scorer in world cup with 1537 runs by the average rate of 48.

By playing the first match of world cup 2011, he will also achieve the record of highest number of participator player in world cup along with Javed Miandad. Till now, Tendulkar has participated in five world cups and is on second number of list after the former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad who has participated in six world cups.

The first match in world cup 2011 of Indiais with Bangladesh. While playing this match, Sachin will also break Sri Lankan player Sanath Jayasuriya’s record of most playing One Day International matches. Currently there are 444 ODI matches on Jayasuriya’s name but unfortunately he is also not playing in this world cup. So there is a clear opportunity in front of Sachin to become the player of highest playing ODI matches.
