Fasting is good for health and heart

Fasting is long way associated with Religious beliefs. Indian spirituality stress human beings to keep fasts, once in a week. Many politicians also keep themselves without food due to their politics career and to save their people from any wrong-goings or to fight for their people’s rights or might be some other reason 🙂

But whatever may be the reason, fasting is good for them. New study done by Intermountain Medical Centre Heart Institute in Utah shows that periodic fasting if followed lowers the risk of coronary artery disease and diabetes. It also causes changes in cholesterol levels in blood.

How Fasting is good for Health?
According to this research’s principal investigator and Director of Cardiovascular and Genetic Epidemiology, Benhamin D. Horne, Fasting causes hunger or stress. In response to it, human body releases more cholesterol and the body utilizes fat instead of glucose as a source of energy. This in turn decreases the count of fat cells. And the lesser fat cells a body has, lesser are the chances that it will have diabetes or insulin resistance. The study further concluded that fasting is also helpful in reducing other cardiac risk factors like triglycerides, weight and blood sugar levels.

This study expands upon 2007 study that revealed a link between fasting and Coronary Heart Disease reduced risks which is one of the main cause of death among men and women in United States.

The study is been presented at Annual Scientific sessions of American College of Cardiology in New Orleans.
